Lincoln County Republican Committee Refuses Prosecuting Attorney Leah Chaney’s Filing Fee
Troy — In an unprecedented and bold move last week, Lincoln County Republican Central Committee members voted to reject Democrat Leah Wommack Chaney’s filing fee – in an effort to keep the democrat off the Republican ballot for Prosecuting Attorney this August.
In a letter written to Lincoln County Clerk Crystal Hall, the Republican Central Committee gave notice on March 28th, that the committee has voted to refuse the filing fee of Mrs. Chaney.
Bedford Township Republican Committeewoman Alexandra Salsman said this of the decision:
“We welcome a genuine change of heart from anyone. But Mrs. Chaney established her re-election committee as a Democrat, and has been raising money for the past six months as a Democrat, and only switched parties the last day possible, in order to appear on the Republican ballot.”
Republican State Committeewoman, and Clark Township Central Committeewoman Carol Boyer, had this to say:
“We’re seeing this happen all over the state. Long-time democrats know they can’t win out here in deeply conservative areas like ours, so they’re jumping ship, switching ballots, trying to fool uninformed voters. The Lincoln County Republican Party has refused her filing fee because she’s currently in-office as a Democrat, and has been raising money for re-election as a Democrat all year. It would be going against our own party to accept her Republican candidacy.”
Mike Wood – Republican candidate for Prosecuting Attorney, says he will be watching closely for further developments.
“I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed my opponent’s latest stunt.” He says, adding “It’s encouraging to see Lincoln County Republicans take a stand against this sort of political expediency. I’ll be interested in seeing where this leads.”
